Material Selection and PreparationThe process begins with selecting the appropriate fiber type (single-mode or multi-mode), connectors (SC, LC, FC, ST, MTP), and jacket material (PVC, LSZH) based on application requirements. High-quality optical fibers are essential, and jackets provide mechanical protection and environmental stability. All materials are inspected for defects before production begins to ensure consistent performance .2. Cable Cutting and StrippingFiber cables are cut to the required lengths using automated cutting machines for precision and efficiency. The outer jacket is stripped using a jacket stripper, exposing the aramid yarn and the inner buffer. The 900µm buffer is carefully removed with a precision fiber stripper to avoid damaging the 125µm fiber cladding. The exposed fiber is then cleaned with lint-free wipes and 99.9%+ isopropyl alcohol to remove dust and residues .3. Connector AssemblyEpoxy is injected into the connector ferrule, and the cleaned fiber is inserted. The assembly is cured in an oven to secure the bond. The connector housing and strain relief boot are then assembled. This step requires precision to prevent micro-bubbles in the epoxy, which can cause signal loss .4. PolishingThe ferrule end-face is polished using automatic polishing machines to achieve a smooth, flat surface. Ultrasonic cleaning is performed afterward to remove any remaining debris. Proper polishing ensures low insertion loss (IL) and high return loss (RL), which are critical for signal integrity .5. InspectionEach connector end-face is inspected under a 400x microscope to detect scratches, contamination, or defects. Only fibers meeting strict visual standards proceed to testing .6. TestingPatch cords undergo insertion loss (IL) and return loss (RL) testing to verify optical performance. Interferometers may be used to ensure connector durability and consistent signal transmission. Any cord failing the tests is rejected or reworked .7. Final Assembly and PackagingAfter passing all inspections and tests, the patch cords are labeled, coiled, and packaged according to order specifications. Proper handling during this stage prevents mechanical stress or contamination before deployment .
