It typically includes a light source such as a Light Emitting Diode (LED) or a Laser Diode.LEDs are used for short-distance applications, while Laser Diodes are preferred for long-distance and high-speed data transmission due to their higher power and narrower spectral width .Optical Fiber:The optical fiber itself is made up of a core and cladding. The core is the central part of the fiber that transmits light, while the cladding surrounds the core and reflects light back into it, allowing for total internal reflection.There are two main types of optical fibers: Single-mode fibers, which are used for long-distance communication, and Multimode fibers, which are used for shorter distances .Receiver:The receiver converts the optical signals back into electrical signals. It typically includes a photodetector, such as a PIN photodiode or an avalanche photodiode, which detects the light and converts it into an electrical signal .Connectors and Couplers:Connectors are used to join optical fibers together or to connect fibers to other components.
